Q. Can't Sign in, seeing an error message when trying to sign in, OR locked out of Library account
If you are trying to sign in to your Library account but you see this error message ⤋
So you keep trying because you are sure the password you entered was right,
but for some reason it didn't work & you tried until you saw this error message ⤋
First, How do I fix it?
First, before you try to sign in again, check to make sure you are using theidentical username(NOT your Lewis email or ID number) and passwordyou use to sign in to MyLewis.
Um - how do I do that, I don't remember the password I use for MyLewis - it just signs in for me.
We understand - most of us also use password managers because trying to remember all the passwords we use makes our brains hurt.
Not to worry, it's fairly easy to find out your saved passwords - Follow these steps:
Open your saved passwords (for example: look for a vertical ellipsis in Chrome, horizontal lines in Firefox in the top left or right corner of your screen) and search for MyLewis.
Make sure the username you have entered matches the one saved for MyLewis.
Then, copy and paste the password for MyLewis into the password field for the Library
Select 'Sign in'
Then your password manager should pick up that there is a new password used for the Library and save it for you (until the next time you have to change it).
NOTE: If you have never used the Library resources before, then the password manager won't have anything saved and it will just expect you to manually type in the username and password.
I have signed in before by my saved password still isn't working
If your username and password for MyLewis are saved by a password manager, whether in your browser (e.g., Google, Safari, Firefox, DuckDuckGo, Bing) or another password manager (such as LifeLock), and you had to change your password in Okta (through MyLewis) since you last used the Library, the password manager will not update the password for the Library when it updates the password for MyLewis because they are treated as two separate websites by password managers.
In other words, when your password for MyLewis changed (since the last time you used the Library), and the updated password was saved for MyLewis, the password held by the browser's password manager for the Library will still be the same password used the last time you signed in to the Library.
After all this, your next question may be: Why do I have to sign in to the Library, anyway? I used MyLewis to get to the Library website, and it works just fine when I go to Blackboard!
MyLewis does not sign into the Library for you but it does sign into Blackboard because you cannot access anything in Blackboard without signing in.
However, you can browse the Library collection without signing in first.
You only need to sign in to access the articles in the subscription databases, and to access the other features of Primo. Therefore, the link from MyLewis only takes you to the library webpage or to the A-Z list of databases.
